
Atanda, Olugbemiga John

Mr. John Olugbemiga Atanda is a seasoned bureaucrat, born on 11th March, 1966. He had his B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in 1991 and M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry from University of Lagos in 1996. He joined the Federal Ministry of Health, Food and Drug Services Department in 1993 and has since been involved in the vanguard of promoting professionalization of chemistry in the public service. He was in the forefront of the struggle to ensure ICCON’s take-off in 2005, which led to his secondment at the Institute as the first and pioneer Chief Assistant Registrar of ICCON. His sojourn in ICCON between 2006 and 2011 was critical to ICCON’s take-off on a sound footing. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST). He has many awards to his honour for academic prowess and exemplary service to the nation.
Mr. Atanda is currently the Director and National Coordinator, Food Safety and Quality Programme in the Food and Drug Services Department of the Ministry. He, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Health, Chairs the National Codex Committee (NCC) as well as the National Food Safety Management Committee (NFSMC). He is currently representing the Honourable Minister of Health on the Governing Council of ICCON.
