Prof Iwekumo Ebibofe Agbozu
Iwekumo Ebibofe Agbozu, is a professor of environmental chemistry. Prof Agbozu started his lecturing career at the Department of Chemical Sciences, Niger Delta University, as a pioneer member of staff. In 2008, he proceeded to Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) where he served as Head of Department (2009-2012), Director of SIWES (2014-2016) and Director of SERVICOM (2014-2015). He also served as Dean, College of Science (2016- December 2017). A position he held till he answered the proverbial Macedonian call to be part of University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State pioneer management team, where he served two terms as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration). It is on record that Prof Agbozu contributed immensely to entrench and deepen the university culture and tradition in UAT (amongst other notable achievements) while in office as DVC-Admin. Furthermore, he served either as a Member or Chairman of many university wide Committees including Council Committees. A seasoned University Administrator and Scholar, Prof Agbozu has published several works on persistent organic pollutants, inorganic pollutants, adsorption studies, waste management, pollution control and abatement, toxicity and toxicological studies in refereed and high impact scientific journals. He has contributed immensely to quality assessment in several universities in Nigeria and that of University of South Africa and Prince Songkla University, Thailand.
Prof. Agbozu belongs to several professional bodies in the country and beyond. He is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON); Fellow, Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN) and Fellow, Institute of Oil and Gas Research and Hydrocarbon Studies (FIOGR). Other professional bodies’ membership include: American Chemical Society, Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWM-UK), Waste Managers Association of Nigeria (WAMASON), Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN) among others.
He has participated and made valuable contributions in several international workshops, trainings and exhibitions on environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy, waste management and environmental monitoring.
Prof Agbozu has served as an international consultant on environmental studies to World Bank and Canadian government sponsored projects. Back home, he is a household name in environmental consultancy. He has offered consultancy services to power infrastructure, oil and gas operations, manufacturing sector and intervention agencies for about two (2) decades now. He is a recipient of several awards. These include, “2018 Environmental Stewardship Award” presented by Environment Outreach Magazine- the Nigerian foremost Magazine on Environment, Nigeria Patriot of Education Exemplary Award, UAT Distinguished Service Award, amongst others.
At present, Prof Agbozu sits on the 5th Governing Council of Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), a parastatal under Federal Ministry of Health.
