WHAT IS ICCON?
ICCON is a professional regulatory body statutorily charged with the responsibility of regulating the teaching, learning, and the practice of Chemistry Profession in Nigeria.
WHAT YEAR WAS ICCON ESTABLISHED?
The Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) was established by Decree 91 of 1993 (now ICCON ACT, CAP I.12 LFN 2004).
WHAT MINISTRY IS ICCON UNDER?
The Institute is a parastatal under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health
WHO IS A CHARTERED CHEMIST?
A Chartered Chemist is a person who, having obtained the requisite academic qualifications and satisfied the criteria set by the Institute has been formally inducted into and enrolled in the register of ICCON.

You can become a member by first completing the application process, either online or downloading the PDF form from the website.

There are six categories of memberships which include;
- Fellow
- Honourary Fellow
- Member
- Corporate Member
- Honourary Member
- Graduate Member
WHAT ARE DESIGNATORY LETTERS?
These are letters used to describe categories of membership, for example; Member, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria is written as “MICCON”
WHAT IS THE APRROVED QUALIFICARION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF ICCON?
An intending member of the Institute should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Chemistry, e. g Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry Option), Science Education (Chemistry Option), Chemical Engineering etc. such must have two years post NYSC experience.
HOW OFTEN DO ICCON MEMBERSHIP EXAMITION HOLD?
ICCON usually conduct examination twice a year. In some cases, the number of candidates waiting to take the examination determines how many times the examination will be taken.
CAN I GET AN EXAMINATION EXEMPTION?
Yes! but only for those with 10 years post NYSC experience in the chemical industry.
HOW MUCH DO ANNUAL DUES COST?
An annual dues is N 10, 000 for Members, N20, 000 for Fellows, and N50, 000 for Corporate Members.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO RENEW OUR MEMBERSHIP?
Renewal of Membership is by payment of annual dues
IF I MISS MY RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP ONCE, WILL I LOOSE MY MEMBERSHIP?
No! However, if you miss consecutively for three years, you will lose your membership. Furthermore if you miss your annual subscription you will not be recognize as chemist such year.
IF I DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (MCPD) PROGRAMMES, WILL I LOOSE MY MEMBERSHIP?
A member MUST participate in a least one MCPD in a year.
HOW CAN I GET ACCESS TO THE RESTRICTED SECTION OF ICCON’S WEBSITE?
You can get access by been a member of ICCON.
READ A CHEMISTRY RELATED COURSE, CAN I STILL BE CONSIDERED FOR MEMBERSHIP OF ICCON?
Candidate with chemistry-related degrees can apply and if they are found eligible, will be informed accordingly.
